The third installment of this series titled “La Nena,” is faithful to its author’s style, and you know what to expect: a quick read, good pace, macabre plots, strong, visceral scenes – even harder to digest than in previous installments – a rush to read in one or two sittings. Characters that are unsettling – like La Nena – and/or that personify evil. Police officers who work tirelessly to solve a case…. Zárate and Chesca have had a bigger role in this case: past/present, secrets that come to light, moral/legal dilemmas. What would someone be capable of doing if they found themselves in a similar situation? Any decision has a cost, that sooner or later must be paid. Reyes, the new member of the police station – although they have given her a somewhat special profile – can still give a lot of play in the following installments.
I enjoy reading this type of book, just letting myself go, for pure entertainment. But in this author’s case, after three published books and the initial surprise of the first one, I still think something is missing. I don’t see any evolution. I don’t know, maybe… a greater depth to the characters? A little more detail until reaching some scenes, maintaining a bit more tension, not releasing them so quickly and directly and/or not passing almost lightly over others? Working a bit better on the closure or post-closure once the case is solved?
Still, I will be looking forward to reading the next installment.
La tercera entrega de esta serie titulada “La Nena”, es fiel al estilo de su autora, y ya sabes qué esperar: lectura rápida, buen ritmo, tramas macabras, escenas contundentes y viscerales -aún más difíciles de digerir que en entregas anteriores- prisa por leer en una o dos sentadas. Personajes inquietantes -como La Nena- y/o que personifican el mal. Policías que trabajan incansablemente para resolver un caso…. Zárate y Chesca han tenido un papel más importante en este caso: pasado/presente, secretos que salen a la luz, dilemas morales/jurídicos. ¿Qué sería capaz de hacer alguien si se encontrara en una situación similar? Toda decisión tiene un costo, que tarde o temprano hay que pagar. Reyes, la nueva integrante de la comisaría -aunque le han dado un perfil un tanto especial- todavía puede dar mucho juego en las siguientes entregas.
Disfruto leyendo este tipo de libros, simplemente dejándome llevar, por puro entretenimiento. Pero en el caso de este autor, después de tres libros publicados y la sorpresa inicial del primero, sigo pensando que falta algo. No veo ninguna evolución. No sé, tal vez… ¿una mayor profundidad en los personajes? ¿Un poco más de detalle hasta llegar a algunas escenas, mantener un poco más de tensión, no soltarlas tan rápido y directo y/o no pasar casi a la ligera sobre otras? ¿Trabajar un poco mejor en el cierre o post-cierre una vez que se resuelve el caso?
Aún así, estaré deseando leer la próxima entrega.
