SINOPSIS
Le gustaba la vida que le había tocado, le gustaba aprender nuevos círculos de invocación, nuevas formas de provocar a su caballero protector, de evitar sus deberes o robar mandarinas de las cocinas. El peso de la corona recaía en su hermana Sera, quien se la merecía más que nadie y a quien Nize quería más que a nadie.

For a long time, I have been yearning to delve into ‘Larga vida al Rey”, the inaugural work of the fantasy trilogy conceived by Irene Morales and published by Umbriel. This first volume, ‘Blood’, has ambushed me with its unexpected depth and originality. I was already an admirer of Morales’s narrative prowess, but with ‘Long Live the King’, her talent has been firmly consolidated in my perception.
This trilogy kick-off, although brief with its 250 pages, has the precise measure for the scenario it poses. Upon culminating ‘Blood’, you realize that the plot you just savored is nothing more than a prelude, and that the real bulk of the story is just about to unfold. Morales catapults us into a world simultaneously complex and simple, adorned with two magic systems that are simple yet incredibly novel, coexisting in perfect synergy. There’s a meticulous world-building work, evidenced in the structure and hierarchy of the kingdom, its different ranks, and its own calendar. The choice of a Mediterranean setting, a breath of fresh air away from the usual Anglo-Saxon medieval fantasy, brings a fascinating originality. It is particularly stimulating that the author has drawn inspiration from the Spanish Mediterranean coast for her medieval fantasy.
In this kingdom, Nize, whose older sister Sera is the presumptive heir to the throne, has spent his life being trained to fulfill the role of royal summoner. The prince’s life takes a sudden turn during Sera’s Color Festival, when she is shockingly assassinated. Forced to accept the reality that the crown now belongs to him, and moved by the desire for revenge following his sister’s murder, Nize, along with his squire Sasha, launches in search of the culprit. The narration is imbued with a constant halo of mystery, as if there were always something peculiar in the air, a tiny alteration that changes and at the same time keeps the status quo intact. It is perceived in the scenes where Nize is presented alone, where the change brewing within him is gradually glimpsed, in that almost liminal atmosphere of his encounters with demons. ‘Blood’ offers scenes so impactful they become indelible, imbued with an atmosphere that borders on terror and raises goosebumps.
The dazzling culmination of this work unfolds a new universe, entirely different characters, and fresh mysteries and conflicts to resolve. From this point, the plot can branch off in multiple directions. I eagerly await the continuation of Nize’s and Sasha’s stories in future publications. However, if I must point to a less favorable aspect of the novel, it would undoubtedly be its brevity. Irene manages to condense a brilliant beginning of the trilogy into a few pages. Yet, at the precise moment when the reader begins to forge an emotional bond with the characters and delve deeply into the plot, the narrative reaches its conclusion.

Desde hace tiempo, guardaba ansias por sumergirme en ‘Larga vida al Rey’, la inaugural obra de la trilogía de fantasía ideada por Irene Morales y publicada por Umbriel. Este primer volumen, ‘Sangre’, me ha emboscado con su inesperada profundidad y originalidad. Ya era admiradora de la destreza narrativa de Morales, pero con ‘Larga vida al Rey’, su talento ha quedado firmemente consolidado en mi percepción.
Este arranque de trilogía, aunque breve con sus 250 páginas, posee la medida precisa para el escenario que nos plantea. Al culminar ‘Sangre’, te percatas de que la trama que acabas de saborear no es más que un preludio, y que el verdadero grueso de la historia apenas está por desplegarse. Morales nos catapulta hacia un mundo simultáneamente complejo y sencillo, adornado con dos sistemas mágicos sencillos pero increíblemente novedosos que coexisten en perfecta sinergia. Se advierte un minucioso trabajo de construcción de mundo, evidenciado en la estructura y jerarquía del reino, sus diferentes rangos y su propio calendario. La elección de una ambientación mediterránea, un soplo de aire fresco alejado de la habitual fantasía medieval anglosajona, aporta una fascinante originalidad. Resulta particularmente estimulante que la autora se haya inspirado en la costa mediterránea española para su fantasía medieval.
En este reino, Nize, cuya hermana mayor Sera es la presunta heredera al trono, ha pasado su vida siendo formado para cumplir el papel de invocador real. La vida del príncipe toma un giro abrupto durante el Festival de Color de Sera, cuando esta es asesinada de manera impactante. Obligado a aceptar la realidad de que la corona ahora le pertenece, y movido por el deseo de venganza tras el asesinato de su hermana, Nize, junto a su escudero Sasha, se lanza en la búsqueda del culpable. La narración se halla impregnada de un constante halo de misterio, como si siempre hubiese algo peculiar en el aire, una minúscula alteración que cambia y al mismo tiempo mantiene intacto el statu quo. Se percibe en las escenas en las que Nize se presenta solo, en las que gradualmente se vislumbra el cambio que se gesta en su interior, en ese ambiente casi liminal de sus encuentros con demonios. ‘Sangre’ brinda escenas tan impactantes que resultan imborrables, impregnadas de una atmósfera que roza el terror y eriza la piel.
La deslumbrante culminación de esta obra despliega un nuevo universo, personajes totalmente diferentes, y frescos misterios y conflictos a resolver. A partir de este punto, la trama puede ramificarse en múltiples direcciones. Aguardo con impaciencia la continuación de las historias de Nize y Sasha en futuras publicaciones. No obstante, si debo apuntar a un aspecto menos favorecedor de la novela, sería indudablemente su brevedad. Irene consigue condensar un comienzo brillante de la trilogía en pocas páginas. Sin embargo, en el preciso instante en que el lector comienza a forjar un vínculo emocional con los personajes y a profundizar en la trama, la narración llega a su conclusión.

Su pasión por las letras la ha cultivado desde pequeña, pues siendo muy joven comenzó a escribir en blogs, foros de rol y de escritura.
