SINOPSIS
Ry viaja a Mallorca con su madre para pasar un verano lejos de la rutina impuesta por una enfermedad crónica. Allí conoce a Julián y empieza a vivir con una libertad que hasta entonces le parecía prestada. Pero el empeoramiento de su salud y varios secretos familiares convierten ese verano luminoso en una cuenta atrás que nadie se atreve a nombrar.

The Last Sunrise arrives in Mallorca already carrying a suitcase full of familiar things: chronic illness, a beautiful stranger, a protective mother, withheld family history and a summer that will teach everybody to live more honestly. None of that is fatal. The problem is how often the film treats recognition as emotion. A beach, a song and a meaningful silence are asked to do work the characters have not always earned.
Maia Reficco is much better than the material around her. She gives Ry an irritation and appetite that push against the saintly-patient cliché, while Eva Longoria finds a few sharp moments as a mother whose care has hardened into control. Fernando Lindez is charming, but Julián remains more fantasy than person; he appears precisely when the story needs Ry to discover spontaneity and rarely escapes that function.
The Mallorca setting is beautiful without ever becoming dramatically specific, and the late revelations pile melodrama onto a story that was stronger when it stayed small. There are sincere scenes here, especially between mother and daughter, but too much of The Last Sunrise feels engineered to produce the reaction already promised by the poster. It is polished, earnest and easy to watch, yet its tears arrive with instructions attached.

The Last Sunrise llega a Mallorca con una maleta llena de elementos conocidos: enfermedad crónica, un chico atractivo, una madre protectora, secretos familiares y un verano que enseñará a todos a vivir con mayor honestidad. Nada de eso condena una película. El problema es la frecuencia con la que confunde reconocimiento con emoción. Una playa, una canción y un silencio significativo tienen que hacer un trabajo que los personajes no siempre se han ganado.
Maia Reficco está bastante mejor que el material que la rodea. Da a Ry una irritación y unas ganas de vivir que la alejan de la enferma ejemplar, mientras Eva Longoria encuentra algunos momentos afilados como una madre cuyo cuidado se ha ido endureciendo hasta parecer control. Fernando Lindez tiene encanto, pero Julián sigue siendo más fantasía que persona: aparece exactamente cuando la historia necesita que Ry descubra la espontaneidad y rara vez escapa de esa función.
Mallorca luce preciosa sin convertirse nunca en un lugar dramáticamente concreto y las revelaciones finales cargan de melodrama una historia que funcionaba mejor cuando era pequeña. Hay escenas sinceras, especialmente entre madre e hija, pero demasiado de The Last Sunrise parece calculado para provocar la reacción que ya prometía el cartel. Es pulida, bienintencionada y fácil de ver, aunque sus lágrimas llegan acompañadas de instrucciones.
