I was so excited for Reminiscence when I heard about it; it promised a great cast, a creative sci-fi world and a thrilling mystery. Unfortunately, the movie does not live up to its potential. The plot is too convoluted and the dialogue is clunky, making it hard to follow. Hugh Jackman does his best with his role as Nick but the rest of the cast, including the usually dependable Rebecca Ferguson, don’t get enough development. Thandiwe Newton’s character Watts is an exception, but even her backstory and motivations become lost in the muddle. Ramin Djawadi’s score is good, but it’s not enough to save the movie. Reminiscence may have had a lot of potential, but in the end it falls short and is likely to be forgotten quickly.
