Black Widow is the long-awaited solo outing for Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, taking place after Captain America: Civil War. The movie centers on Natasha’s past catching up with her in the form of Russian ‘super’-soldier Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (Harbour) and Melina Vostokoff (Weiss), her surrogate parents, and Yelena Belova (Pugh), her ‘sister’. The film focuses primarily on the family drama between Natasha and Yelena, and is at its strongest when it does so. However, the villainous side of the story is lacking, with Ray Winstone’s Dreykov, his mind-controlled Black Widows, and the underwhelming Taskmaster (Kurylenko) falling short. Pugh’s debut in the MCU is a standout aspect, positioning her for future stories, but the film suffers from a lack of focus on Natasha and a surplus of backstory, exposition and set-ups. The first half of the movie is stronger than the latter stages, with a larger scope in the third act, but still lacking in spy elements. Although the positives of strong performances, good visuals, and action sequences outweigh the negatives, Black Widow ends up feeling average in comparison to other MCU productions.

Black Widow es la tan esperada salida en solitario de Natasha Romanoff de Scarlett Johansson, que tiene lugar después de Capitán América: Civil War. La película se centra en el pasado de Natasha poniéndose al día con ella en la forma del “súper” soldado ruso Alexei Shostakov/Guardián Rojo (Harbour) y Melina Vostokoff (Weiss), sus padres sustitutos, y Yelena Belova (Pugh), su “hermana”. .
