I had low expectations for Love and Monsters, a Netflix fantasy-action-adventure movie. The story follows Joel, played by Dylan O’Brien, as he sets out to find his old girlfriend, Aimee, in a world overrun by giant mutated creatures. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the film. It’s a charming, inventive, and comical movie that has a lot of heart. O’Brien gives a strong performance as the protagonist, who is a mix of anxiety, wimpiness, confidence, and foolish love. His chemistry with Aimee, played by Henwick, is great and their romance is mature and well-developed. The real standout, however, is Boy, an Australian Kelpie that Joel befriends on his journey, who is fearless and steals the show. The creatures are imaginative and well-conceived, the special effects are impressive, and the adventure is exciting and unpredictable. Although the movie doesn’t have a deeper meaning, it’s an emotional and enjoyable adventure that exceeded my expectations. Love and Monsters is a delightful surprise.

Tenía bajas expectativas para Love and Monsters, una película de fantasía, acción y aventuras de Netflix. La historia sigue a Joel, interpretado por Dylan O’Brien, mientras se dispone a encontrar a su antigua novia, Aimee, en un mundo invadido por criaturas mutantes gigantes. Pero me sorprendió gratamente lo mucho que disfruté la película. Es una película encantadora, inventiva y cómica que tiene mucho corazón. O’Brien ofrece una gran actuación como protagonista, que es una mezcla de ansiedad, debilidad, confianza y amor tonto. Su química con Aimee, interpretada por Henwick, es excelente y su romance es maduro y está bien desarrollado. El verdadero destacado, sin embargo, es Boy, un Kelpie australiano del que Joel se hace amigo en su viaje, que no tiene miedo y se roba el espectáculo. Las criaturas son imaginativas y están bien concebidas, los efectos especiales son impresionantes y la aventura es emocionante e impredecible.
