As the world’s largest streaming service, Netflix probably has a few extra funds to spend on assembling a star-studded cast for their latest film, Red Notice, which features Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. At first glance, the premise and cast seemed promising but ultimately the movie falls short of expectations. The three lead actors are the saving grace of the film, bringing their charm and charisma to an otherwise average film. The chemistry between Johnson’s burly cop and Reynolds’ art thief is effective and Gadot is competent as the female lead, but the writing is often inconsistent and filled with throwaway jokes. The film also suffers from a lack of budget, and the action sequences are not able to make up for the film’s shortcomings. Although Red Notice isn’t the success Netflix was hoping for, it is not entirely awful and is saved by the lead trio’s performances.
