La chica del tren was an interesting train wreck. I can appreciate the skill of the author, but ultimately it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
This book was a wild ride, with a cast of characters that left me feeling a little bit like I had been thrown into a tornado. With multiple points of view, it was sometimes difficult to keep up with the story, and I found myself having to rewind it a few times to understand who was talking and what was going on. The main characters were Rachel, an alcoholic, jilted divorcee who spends her time riding a train to spy on her ex-husband and his new wife; Anna, a home-wrecker struggling with depression; and Megan, a serial adulteress who catches the eye of a murderer. None of these characters were particularly likable, but the men in the story were even worse – abusive, selfish, and deplorable.
The plot of the story was filled with mystery and suspense, and the writing was skillfully done. Even though the plot was interesting, I simply wasn’t invested enough in the characters to truly care about the outcome. When the big reveal finally came, I was surprised but not particularly moved by it.
