The Russo Brothers’ Apple TV+ original film “Cherry” showcases their attempt to break away from their established image, but the result is a disjointed and unengaging film. Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo deliver strong performances, but the movie suffers from its ambitious and stylistic approach to tackling heavy themes such as war, addiction, and societal failures. The film’s use of chapter shifts in tone and genre does not work and the character of Nico’s framing device adds unnecessary exposition. Overall, “Cherry” falls short in its lofty aspirations and fails to leave a lasting impression.

La película original de Apple TV+ de los hermanos Russo, “Cherry”, muestra su intento de romper con su imagen establecida, pero el resultado es una película inconexa y poco atractiva. Tom Holland y Ciara Bravo ofrecen actuaciones sólidas, pero la película adolece de su enfoque ambicioso y estilístico para abordar temas pesados como la guerra, la adicción y los fracasos sociales. El uso de la película de cambios de capítulo en tono y género no funciona y el personaje del dispositivo de encuadre de Nico agrega una exposición innecesaria. En general, “Cherry” se queda corta en sus elevadas aspiraciones y no deja una impresión duradera.
