Tom is unlikeable and Freya is awful, but Hester is far more sympathetic until she crosses a line. The plot of Mortal Engines: Predator’s Gold is left unresolved with the obvious setup for the next book. Despite the darker tone of the book, there are a few more humorous moments which makes it a bit more lighthearted.
