SINOPSIS
Penny es artista y lleva varias décadas viviendo en el mismo apartamento, rodeada de los objetos y los recuerdos de su larga vida. Resignada a los rituales triviales de la vejez, un día empieza a sufrir lapsus. Años atrás, antes de que falleciera el que había sido su pareja durante mucho tiempo, se hicieron preparativos, sin que ella lo supiera, para reservarle una habitación en una singular residencia en la que, tras sufrir demasiados «incidentes», acaba ingresando.
Al principio, acompañada de personas como ella, conversando, contemplando los hermosos bosques que rodean la casa, todo va bien. Incluso empieza a pintar de nuevo. Although at first, it seems to be a beneficial place, Penny suspects the dark motives of the manager, Shelley. The plot of “We Spread” delves into the world of science fiction, where an individual’s identity is confused or subverted, as in classics like “The Body Snatchers,” “The Stepford Wives,” and “Get Out,” adding a unique and effective dimension to the genre.
Iain Reid achieved success and popularity thanks to the film adaptation of his first novel, “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” by Charlie Kaufman. This work shares concerns with his previous films, such as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Synecdoche, New York,” about aging, the fragility of identity, and the disintegration of the individual following trauma. “We Spread” focuses on how older people are marginalized by a society that renders them invisible, and how Penny struggles to uncover reality at Six Cedars.

Reid’s novel captures the fear of the unknown and the struggle to maintain identity and dignity in a hostile and disorienting world. Iain Reid (Canadá, 1980) es autor de otros cuatro libros, entre ellos su primera novela, “Estoy pensando en dejarlo”, un bestseller de la lista de “The New York Times” traducido a más de veinte idiomas cuya adaptación cinematográfica para Netflix fue escrita y dirigida por Charlie Kaufman -ganador de un Óscar- y coproducida por el propio Reid. Su segunda novela, “Foe”, fue un éxito de ventas y está siendo adaptada para el cine, con Saoirse Ronan en el papel principal y con Reid como coguionista. “Dispersión” es su última novela.
