Stephen King continues to impress me with his ability to turn a 300-page story into a 560-page story in The Outsider. Despite its length and tendency for long-winded storytelling, I couldn’t put this book down. While it’s not for those looking for traditional mysteries and thrillers, fans of King’s slow-building, detailed writing style and character development will enjoy this book. The story explores the case of a horrific child crime and the evidence pointing to a man with an airtight alibi. It raises questions about guilt and innocence, and taps into the fears and concerns of everyday people. The supernatural elements and a character from the Mr. Mercedes trilogy also add to the unsettling atmosphere. Overall, a thrilling and suspenseful read that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
