I had read that Leonardo DiCaprio had fallen in love with this book and had acquired the rights to make a movie in which he would play the protagonist (Orso, a former mafia killer who joined a witness protection program and became a doctor in a notorious Manhattan hospital): it was 2009, although the film would not find funding until 2018, thanks to DiCaprio, who in the meantime had given up the lead role and limited himself to producing it.
Well, all this to say that initially I had also fallen in love with this cynical doctor/assassin with a heart of gold who breaks every rule to save a life, and his fight to the death to settle accounts with the mafia… But then, as the pages passed, I found the plot really weak, the characters rather banal, the American mafia reduced to a list of caricatures that in the intentions of the author should have made me laugh, and many other situations really bordering on the grotesque.
In short, an attempt at irony that was not even half successful: I give it three stars and not two, just for a couple of well-made splatter scenes that make the reading overall less flat.

Bueno, todo esto para decir que en un principio también me había enamorado de este cínico médico/asesino con un corazón de oro que rompe todas las reglas para salvar una vida, y su lucha a muerte para saldar cuentas con la mafia… Pero luego, con el paso de las páginas, encontré la trama realmente débil, los personajes bastante banales, la mafia americana reducida a una lista de caricaturas que en las intenciones del autor deberían haberme hecho reír, y muchas otras situaciones realmente rayanas en lo grotesco. .
En definitiva, un intento de ironía que no tuvo ni la mitad de éxito: le doy tres estrellas y no dos, solo por un par de escenas de salpicaduras bien hechas que hacen que la lectura en general sea menos plana.
