The latest addition to the Sony/Marvel universe is the much-awaited film “Morbius,” featuring Jared Leto in the lead role and directed by the makers of “Child 44” and “Safe House.” Despite Leto’s enthusiasm for the film and the character, initial expectations for “Morbius” were not high due to its prolonged delays and lackluster marketing. Upon viewing the film, it becomes evident that the studio’s involvement has greatly impacted the final product. “Morbius” is a disjointed, lackluster and unenjoyable experience. The dark and gritty aesthetic could have worked if other elements had complemented it, but the tonal imbalance of the film makes it difficult to fully engage with. The absurdity of the story would have benefited from more humor, but instead, certain scenes are unintentionally comical. Furthermore, the movie’s lackluster visual and lazy script do not do it any favors. Despite this, the performances of Leto and Smith are decent and they clearly put in effort in their roles. Unfortunately, Adria Arjona’s character is underdeveloped and underutilized. The attempts to create a horror atmosphere are commendable but the action sequences are heavy and uninspired. It feels like there was a better version of the film that could have been, but instead “Morbius” ends up feeling hollow and like a missed opportunity.

La última incorporación al universo de Sony/Marvel es la muy esperada película “Morbius”, con Jared Leto en el papel principal y dirigida por los creadores de “Child 44” y “Safe House”. A pesar del entusiasmo de Leto por la película y el personaje, las expectativas iniciales de “Morbius” no eran altas debido a los prolongados retrasos y al deslucido marketing. Al ver la película, se hace evidente que la participación del estudio ha tenido un gran impacto en el producto final. “Morbius” es una experiencia inconexa, mediocre y desagradable. La estética oscura y arenosa podría haber funcionado si otros elementos la hubieran complementado, pero el desequilibrio tonal de la película hace que sea difícil involucrarse por completo. Lo absurdo de la historia se habría beneficiado de más humor, pero en cambio, ciertas escenas son involuntariamente cómicas. Además, el guión visual mediocre y perezoso de la película no le hace ningún favor. A pesar de esto, las actuaciones de Leto y Smith son decentes y claramente se esfuerzan en sus papeles. Desafortunadamente, el personaje de Adria Arjona está subdesarrollado y subutilizado. Los intentos de crear una atmósfera de terror son encomiables, pero las secuencias de acción son pesadas y sin inspiración. Se siente como si hubiera una mejor versión de la película que podría haber sido, pero en cambio, “Morbius” termina sintiéndose vacío y como una oportunidad perdida.
