Luca Guadagnino is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most intriguing directors, his recent works being especially captivating. His latest movie, Bones and All, stars Timothée Chalamet – though thankfully not Armie Hammer – as it tells a unique story of two young “eaters”, Lee and Maren (played by Chalamet and Taylor Russell), who must consume human flesh and blood in order to survive. Guadagnino doesn’t focus on the horror of it all, instead making the romance and coming-of-age story the focus of the movie. Bones and All is peculiar, eerie, and seductive – though somewhat heavy – and is ultimately an emotional and beautiful movie. The ending is an earned conclusion, though it does take a while to get there.
